Peptic ulcer disease is strongly associated with a gastric infection of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). It is a bacterium that grows in the stomach. Peptic ulcers found in the stomach are called gastric ulcers, and found in the duodenum i.e., upper part of the small intestine are called duodenal ulcers<br />
The symptoms are<br />
•	burning pain in the gut<br />
•	comes in the middle of the night on an empty stomach<br />
•	starts 2 to 3 hours after a meal<br />
•	anorexia<br />
•	nausea<br />
•	Vomiting<br />
The commonly used medicine is Ranitidine. The brand name is HISTAC, ZINETAC, and RANTAC. The dosage of the medicine is 300 mg at bed time or 150 mg at twice daily. Parenteral dose is 50 mg   i.m or slow i.v injection every 6-8 hours. The common side effects of the medicine are head ache, diarrhoea / constipation, dizziness. Rashes are infrequent. Hepatic injury, CNS effects and haematological changes are rare, mostly seen in elderly and seriously ill patients.</p>
